The 3-year cashew value chain project was implemented by the Adventist
Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Ghana in five (5) Municipal and
District Assemblies (MDAs), namely Ejura-Sekyedumase, Jaman North,
Nkoranza North, Tain, and Wenchi. The project, which is co-funded by the
European Union (EU) and ADRA UK, targets to support 14,500 beneficiaries to
contribute to the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs);
1. End Poverty in all its forms everywhere 2. Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment
and decent work for all; and 3. Revitalize the Global Partnership for sustainable development
Overall, approximately 75,000 community members,
permanent/casual cashew industry workers,
transporters, cashew processors and exporters,
Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs),
Department of Agriculture (DoA) and Financial
Institutions will benefit from the project
Peter Bediako, from Jaman
North District, has been a
cashew farmer for 19 years. He
is an existing farmer of the
BAAT Project and regularly
participates in the training on
good agronomic practices
facilitated by ADRA Ghana and
DoA. So far, he has received the
following technologies from the
project: Plant spacing—for
optimal yield, cashew plants
should be planted 10m x 10m;
Pruning of cashew trees; and
Efficient nut picking techniques
He has also received beehives
from the project to produce
honey for additional income.
Isaac, from Nwamsua in the Jaman North
District, is a new cashew farmer who
recently joined the project. He was
supported by the project to plant two (2)
acres of cashew in 2020. Isaac hopes to
earn a good income from his 2-acre
cashew farm when it starts fruiting in
commercial quantities in 3-4 years to
come
