Following the October 2020 presidential
election, violence erupted between opposition
and pro-government supporters in Côte
d’Ivoire forcing hundreds of Ivoirians to flee
into Ghana and other neighboring countries.
The declaration of Category-1 Emergency by
the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees triggered a series of coordination
meetings by UNHCR and her local partners,
including ADRA. To alleviate the suffering of
the Ivorian Asylum Seekers, ADRA Ghana
volunteered to take up the task of providing
wet feeding for the new arrivals.
As of December 1, 2020, a total of 703
Asylum Seekers had arrived in Ghana and
were hosted in Ampain, Egyeikrom, and
Fetentaa camps with Ampain hosting the
highest number. With funding from UNHCR
and Ghana Refugee Board (GRB) providing
data to the project, ADRA fed the Asylum
Seekers with 2 meals a day. Additionally,
breakfast was provided for children, lactating
mothers, pregnant women, and elderly
people
