ADRA Ghana has been implementing
interventions in this sector for about 35 years.
Agriculture and Food Security is a major field
of intervention in which ADRA Ghana has
made the most recognizable impacts in
assisting over 2,000,000 farmers and their
households in about 2,000 communities to
improve their agricultural productivity and
production. The support has contributed to
increased household incomes and a reduction
in poverty levels. ADRA has a wide
geographical coverage and has implemented
projects in all the 16 regions of Ghana. Our
focus areas include: • Technology promotion for increased
yields in cereal crops (maize, rice,
sorghum) and legumes (soybean,
cowpea, and groundnuts); • Tree crop plantation development and
management (mango, citrus, cashew,
oil palm, cocoa, etc.); • Development of agricultural value
chains, emphasizing the linkage of
farmers to inputs, markets, and credit
facility; and • Provision of technical and
consultancy services to farmers and
client organizations
The Agency has developed and adopted an
integrated approach to its food security
projects. Over the past five (5) years,
ADRA has served more than 500,000
people in communities of operation. The
Agency has been using capacity
strengthening approaches for smallholder
farmers and youth in TVET; community
mobilization; and sensitization including
group formation to organize project
beneficiaries. In all our programming, we
make deliberate efforts at ensuring more
than 40% women's active participation.
Through the Country Office’s hard work,
some of its beneficiary farmers have
received awards at the regional and district
levels during National Farmers’ Day
Celebrations.
